Book an HSRP Number Plate Online (High Security Plate)

The High Security Registration Plate is mandatory for every vehicle in India. Here’s how to book yours online, what the colour-coded fuel sticker means, the fees, and which vehicles actually need to apply.

Quick answer

HSRP is booked through MoRTH-authorised vendors, not a single government site. Start from the SIAM gateway (siam.in), which routes you to your state’s authorised supplier, or use your state’s own transport portal. Enter your registration, chassis and engine numbers, choose a fitment centre and slot (or home delivery where offered), and pay online. Fees run roughly ₹400 for two-wheelers and ₹1,100 for cars, plus about ₹100 for the colour sticker, and vary by state.

What makes a plate “high security”

An HSRP isn’t just a number plate, it’s a tamper-resistant, trackable one, which is why it’s mandatory.

Laser-etched code

A permanent unique identification number laser-etched into the plate, linked electronically to your vehicle.

Tamper-proof hologram

A chromium-based hologram (the Ashoka Chakra) that can’t be easily copied or peeled off.

Snap-lock & aluminium

Fixed with non-reusable snap locks on a durable aluminium plate, so it can’t be swapped without damage.

ANPR-trackable

Readable by automatic number-plate recognition cameras, which helps with challans, theft and traffic enforcement.

The colour-coded fuel sticker

Along with the plates, you get a colour-coded sticker (the “third registration mark”) for the windshield. Its colour shows your fuel type.

Blue

Petrol and CNG vehicles.

Orange

Diesel vehicles.

Green

Electric vehicles. (EVs also carry fully green number plates.)

The sticker also shows your registration number, the Bharat Stage (BS) emission standard, and a laser code, all of it stuck to the inside of the windshield so it’s visible from outside.

Which vehicles need to book one

It depends on when your vehicle was registered.

Made on or after 1 April 2019

Vehicles manufactured from 1 April 2019 come with an HSRP fitted at the time of sale, you don’t need to book one unless it’s damaged or you only need the colour sticker.

Older vehicles

You need to book and get an HSRP retrofitted. This is where most online bookings come from, and several states now actively enforce it.

It’s mandatory

HSRP is compulsory for every vehicle under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Driving without one can attract a fine, and the amount varies widely by state, from around ₹500–₹1,000 in some states (e.g. Karnataka) up to ₹5,000–₹10,000 in others (e.g. Delhi and UP).

Step-by-step: book your HSRP online

There’s no single government HSRP site, booking goes through MoRTH-authorised vendors. The simplest start is the SIAM gateway (siam.in): you fill a short registration there, and it routes you to your state’s authorised vendor to finish. Some states run their own transport-portal booking instead, so check your state site if SIAM doesn’t cover it.

  1. Open SIAM and click “BOOK HSRP”

Go to siam.in and click the BOOK HSRP button in the top bar.

  2. Fill the HSRP Registration form

Enter your Full Name, Email or Mobile, Vehicle Registration No., and select your State and City. Tick I Agree to the terms, then click Submit.

SIAM HSRP Registration form with name, mobile, vehicle number, state and city
  3. Get routed to your state’s vendor

Based on the state and city you entered, SIAM forwards you to the authorised HSRP vendor for your region (for example bookmyhsrp.com in several states) to complete the booking.

  4. Enter vehicle details and choose fitment

On the vendor’s portal, confirm your chassis and engine numbers and fuel type, then pick a nearby fitment centre and slot, or home fitment/delivery where offered (usually an extra charge).

  5. Pay online

Review and pay the fee through UPI, card or net banking, then download the payment receipt.

  6. Get it fitted on your slot

Take the vehicle to the chosen centre at your booked time (or wait for home fitment). The old plate is removed and the HSRP with snap-locks and colour sticker is installed.

HSRP fees

Prices are state-regulated and vary a little, so treat these as typical amounts, the exact amount shows on the portal for your vehicle.

Item Typical fee
Two-wheeler HSRP (incl. fitment) About ₹400
Car / four-wheeler HSRP (incl. fitment) About ₹1,100
Colour-coded fuel sticker ~₹100
Home delivery / fitment (where offered) Extra, varies

The fee is fixed by each state’s transport department, not the fitment centre, so it should match what the official portal quotes. If a centre asks for more in cash, that’s a red flag.

After booking: track it and reschedule

Save the booking/order number you get after payment, it’s how you follow up.

Track your order

Use the “track order / booking status” option on the vendor portal with your order number or registration number to see where it stands.

Reschedule the slot

Missed your fitment appointment? You can usually re-book a new slot from the same portal without paying again.

Fitment timeline

Slots are typically a few days out, and the plate is fitted on the spot at the centre once you arrive.

Keep the receipt

Hold on to the payment receipt until the HSRP and colour sticker are actually fitted and verified.

Damaged, lost or stolen HSRP?

An HSRP can’t just be replaced at a local shop, you re-order an authorised one the same way.

If your HSRP is broken, bent or has come off, book a replacement through the same SIAM/vendor route you used the first time, selecting the re-order/replacement option and paying the fee again. Because it’s laser-coded and snap-locked, only an authorised vendor can make and fit a valid one.

If a plate was lost or stolen, some states ask you to file a police complaint first and carry that when you re-book, keep a copy handy. Never fit a duplicate or fancy plate from a roadside shop; it isn’t a valid HSRP and can itself draw a challan.

Watch out for these

  • Booking on a fake HSRP website, there are many look-alikes; start from the SIAM gateway, your state’s authorised vendor, or your state transport portal only
  • Entering a wrong fuel type, it decides your sticker colour and can’t be casually changed later
  • Mistyping the chassis or engine number, it must match your RC exactly
  • Assuming a vehicle made after April 2019 needs a fresh booking, it usually already has an HSRP from the dealer
  • Paying extra cash at the centre beyond the portal fee, the price is state-fixed

Common questions

Is HSRP mandatory for old vehicles?

Yes. Older vehicles that do not have one must get an HSRP fitted, and many states now enforce it with fines. Vehicles manufactured from 1 April 2019 already come with one fitted.

What does the colour sticker mean?

It shows your fuel type: blue for petrol/CNG, orange for diesel, green for electric. It also carries your registration number and BS emission standard. Your fuel type is shown in your vehicle details on Vahan.

Can I get the HSRP delivered and fitted at home?

In some states, yes, home fitment/delivery is offered for an extra charge during booking. Elsewhere you visit an authorised fitment centre on your chosen slot.

What if I miss my fitment appointment?

You can usually reschedule the slot on the portal using your booking/order number. Check the “track/booking status” option on the site.

I just bought a new vehicle, do I book HSRP separately?

No. For a new vehicle the dealer fits the HSRP as part of registration. See our new vehicle registration guide for how that fits into the overall process.

Ready to book your HSRP?

The SIAM gateway routes you to your state’s authorised HSRP vendor. myrtobuddy.com is not affiliated with it.
